I found this a cute pink, brown, and green striped fabric on clearance that would be perfect so I happily bought it and skipped all the way home to whip this easy hat up!

I was about halfway into it when I realized that this hat was going to be way too small. So back to the fabric store I go. And of course the cute fabric is gone. So I search and search and search for something similiar and finally decided on a fabric that looked absolutely nothing like the original fabric. Oh well....

The tutorial was easy to follow and it really didn't take too long to make; after the fabric debaucle, maybe a couple hours. I chose to leave out the elastic on the hat band, though, so that may add another 15 minutes or so.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JMKFMi6Emeg/T1a5X5rcUzI/AAAAAAAAAZs/7Ta9LEtztYc/s320/hat2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716960597264585522" />

The inside is lined with red corduroy scrap fabric I had. I also added some red ric rac around the the hat band for some decoration. OK, it's actually to cover up some funky stitch lines but whatever. And since I went to the trouble, I finished the smaller one for Little Sister:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iJXLUZwhLdU/T1a5yBIMZ5I/AAAAAAAAAZ4/wmF5qRluIUM/s320/hat3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716961045940823954" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G-hQCAWgwVM/T1a5_E-l6TI/AAAAAAAAAaE/eUe08KBpLZI/s320/hat4.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716961270312593714" />

I don't know how excited they were about them but at least they kept them on long enough fo rme to snap a few pictures :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2U-hNf57r54/T1a6oDBf-bI/AAAAAAAAAaQ/ReMXEmCn70Q/s320/hats4.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716961974162553266" />

And here's goofy Keeley and her Thomas the Train hat:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oMM3oOKQtRM/T1a69KJDs6I/AAAAAAAAAac/iniZy64rL6Y/s320/keeleyhat2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716962336850555810" />

(Excuse the dog butt behind her) And little sister Kira:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B84FP5x9CHY/T1a7Lk70OgI/AAAAAAAAAao/KlJVbFQsGLo/s320/kirahat2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5716962584560941570" />

Pretty cute, right? Stay tuned!Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-21932099788254299072012-02-15T14:46:00.002-08:002012-02-15T15:01:44.875-08:00A Fun Spring PurseI am having so much fun with Adelaide 3000! The sewing is soooooooo smooth and there's so many fun things that can be done with it. I'm still learning my way around it and, as I've been playing with it, I realized something: since I've been sewing, I have yet to create something for myself! So I took a day, poured over my mountain of patterns, and found this one:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 303px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YpG-k6Yd3kk/Tzw2gk5rRII/AAAAAAAAAY8/Xg-ioHK6rgA/s320/mccalls%2B5599.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5709498360888247426" />

How I love a purse! I had this great fabric I bought eons ago at Goodwill so I went to it. It only took a couple of hours and I think it turned out not too shabby:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ACUYjXpIm3U/Tzw3F94LUaI/AAAAAAAAAZI/f1wkiaPJH_Y/s320/pic6.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5709499003248005538" />

I used a contrasting fabric for the inside but used the same color thread as the outside:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uzBMMamBXaM/Tzw3tUEYg5I/AAAAAAAAAZU/ehtE-X4jYaA/s320/pic5.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5709499679219680146" />

I added a pocket and utilized one of the 225 stitches that Adelaide 3000 has to offer:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4S0to0VC7eo/Tzw4CrN2dPI/AAAAAAAAAZg/aJN96abNGI8/s320/pic2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5709500046210659570" />

I'm loving it....such a fun, little Spring purse! I even got a compliment on it the other day....from a complete stranger! Gotta love that!Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-24321126438512852382012-02-07T09:30:00.000-08:002012-02-07T10:14:39.231-08:00Ch-ch-changesWell, hello there! It’s certainly been awhile! There have been a lot of changes in our household over the last several months and I’ve just never found time to update my little blog. I’m hoping to turn over a new leaf and be more consistent so wish me luck on that!

Like I said, there’s been a lot of changes, the biggest being a major move. We moved out of our house that we lived in for 11 years and are now currently renting in a small 1950’s era house. I’m not gonna lie…..I don’t love it (the house I mean, not the move). I think it probably has the potential to be pretty cute but for the life of me, I cannot get it there. It doesn’t help that, after 5 months, I am still unpacking boxes. I’m still slowly going through everything and trying to get it all organized. I’m still at a loss for how to arrange what little furniture I have left (I got rid of a bunch of stuff in the move……if I didn’t love it, I didn’t keep it). What I would really love to do is get rid of EVERYTHING and start from scratch….for some reason, Big Daddy is not on board with that plan. So, hopefully, I’ll be able to share with you the progress I’m making at getting my house “cute-ified”.

Another change: after 13 years, I finally had to part ways with my beloved Adelaide. She just pooped out on me. The week before Christmas. When I still had a few gifts left to make. She’s always been fickle like that. When the repair guy said there was nothing that could be done, I kind of felt like this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 266px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Vcb_DBzRciY/TzFgI-CkNiI/AAAAAAAAAYY/2ef36eqigD4/s320/chris-crocker-crying.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706447910064109090" />

It was pretty heartbreaking. So I did some research and some price comparisons and found my new love:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 258px; height: 196px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q01HfxcYDto/TzFgzH0WIXI/AAAAAAAAAYk/SxxJTeXAzvQ/s320/sewing%2Bmachine.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706448634243326322" />

Hello Lover! She’s electronic with 225 built in stitches, an LCD screen with push button selection, 5 different feet, 6 automatic buttonholes, and an alphanumeric setting. Oh, she is lovely! I ordered her through Overstock (I got a killer deal!) and when she arrived, I felt like this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 234px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RCTDoAm3iSs/TzFg-YBHAXI/AAAAAAAAAYw/YLtfintwgtg/s320/christmas%2Bstory.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706448827570389362" />

I call her “Adelaide 3000”. And I love her.

I’ve made a few things already and have been trying to finish other projects that were started months and months ago. Stay tuned…I’ll be posting about those soon!Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-75511536714154100812011-05-06T18:53:00.001-07:002011-05-06T19:35:34.885-07:00Gettin' OrganizedI've been trying to get my sewing room organized and back to its original glory. What used to look like this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Pq0QpTaF8Q/TcSroDP5oLI/AAAAAAAAAXU/lJpRxiaU1Ko/s320/038.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603792540910854322" />

Now looks like this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CtNXUEWHimM/TcSr88zLnYI/AAAAAAAAAXc/RKEFXBNeWG8/s320/004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603792899957038466" />

I'm such a slob! If you notice in the above picture, the cat bed for the window I made for my sweet little kitty is empty but the basket of fabric on top of the shelf is not:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZxDuFr53xBw/TcSscz81NiI/AAAAAAAAAXk/eKjUJqhdQ2E/s320/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603793447337408034" />

What an ingrate!

While cleaning, I discovered (or should I say "re-discovered"?) many, many unfinished projects so my goal is to finish them all up before I start any new projects. So this little project I started, oh, about a year and a half ago. I had been wanting some sort of cover for my back seat so when I travel with the dog I can put stuff on the floor of the back seat without her getting into it and keep her in the backseat at the same time. I came across this pattern and thought I'd give it a try:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 185px; height: 272px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XDOxKCnelzU/TcStCI_AfuI/AAAAAAAAAXs/m9khDHhLLUk/s320/simplicity.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603794088638840546" />

And I started it. Then got completely irritated because it was so large and awkward to work with. So I put it in the closet. And there it sat. And sat. Oh yeah, and sat. But this past week I decided to tackle it again and actually, it was pretty easy to finish :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HHTAU4nuoPI/TcSttoTLRCI/AAAAAAAAAX0/DOorJah26UY/s320/091.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603794835779306530" />

Love me some leopard print! I used a turquoise fleece for the other side:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-crNGxp3zSwk/TcSuDaRrxXI/AAAAAAAAAX8/w2hqQwKSEZc/s320/092.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603795209972073842" />

One small downside...it doesn't quite work like I had planned:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FzfDFYq3qkg/TcSuXZC_TdI/AAAAAAAAAYE/Lq-b1grFC2I/s320/097.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603795553239387602" />

Ahem.....much better:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PEEv6enEjpw/TcSuneZEORI/AAAAAAAAAYM/NR9BTTWam14/s320/103.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603795829552068882" />

(By the way, I took about 50 pictures before I got one of her cooperating)

I'm slowly plugging away on more projects...some old ones, and some new ones...I know, I know but I can't help myself.Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-52663772384110476712011-04-21T09:08:00.000-07:002011-04-21T09:31:55.926-07:00Quilts!Since it's been awhile, I wanted to show you all some of the quilts I've made over the last year. If you've been reading here long, you've probably seen some of these. One of the first quilts I've ever made is this little cutie for my granddaughter:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GEyqpQt5GPo/TbBXJxVS62I/AAAAAAAAAVk/MBiUWWXCQ2Q/s320/018%2B%25283%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598070162194623330" />

I didn't use a pattern or anything...I just sort of made it up as I went along. Then, I figured out how to read and use a pattern AND I discovered rag quilts. This one is my first attempt:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MxGy37DzI3s/TbBYEvE1RUI/AAAAAAAAAVs/tTTdXMtL3mc/s320/036.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGERPHOTO_ID_5598071175200982338" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E7jC-o4bo5o/TbBY3sq8Q_I/AAAAAAAAAWE/Bl2DPiycfDw/s320/002%2B%25282%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598072050728846322" />

Not bad, huh? Then, I went a little rag quilt crazy and made this one:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m_Upjof5BkY/TbBYawt3z3I/AAAAAAAAAV0/kl-H7ir2mro/s320/003%2B%25286%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598071553598672754" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xwu_pSRj4us/TbBZFSCshzI/AAAAAAAAAWM/vN67qmVjVRs/s320/004%2B%25286%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598072284098889522" />

And this one:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3MPDyzLXABo/TbBYqBTDkEI/AAAAAAAAAV8/rlgrG1kGA8k/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598071815747637314" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JyQ9Mwg_wsE/TbBZTqj4i1I/AAAAAAAAAWU/6RbtqBAHUJQ/s320/002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598072531198708562" />

And this one:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-krH4S7jJjlA/TbBZiZ6KCxI/AAAAAAAAAWc/CFNeHsrWtfo/s320/019%2B%25282%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598072784426765074" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-omc5vff_xb0/TbBZvC4rR7I/AAAAAAAAAWk/n1jOuMzpvn8/s320/022%2B%25282%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598073001584838578" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_Q70u6tYknc/TbBZ70JH4sI/AAAAAAAAAWs/llgTQuBQkcU/s320/021%2B%25282%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598073220965589698" />

These rag quilts were all made from a Simplicity pattern. I guess I let my blogging duties lag during these past several months. While I have still been creating and sewing, I just haven't been blogging about it. With going to school full time and life happening, I underestimated the amount of free time I would have. But not anymore!

Welcome to the new and improved Adventures with Adelaiade! (She's cute, huh?) While I have recently graduated and am no longer a full time student (Yay me!), I will be working full time soon (hopefully) but I resolve to be more consistent with my blogging. Not every day, maybe not even every week, but I will be posting more often and showing off my creations :)

I have lots of things planned for this coming year: new projects, a craft fair, possibly even opening an etsy store! But first I want to catch you up on some of the things I've made. These are mostly from Christmas time and I won't go into all the details about how I made them, I'll just show you a bunch of pictures :)

First, some baby blocks:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TH9h8P_g9aI/TasNsfqYbUI/AAAAAAAAAUE/YeHBRyMIgnU/s320/005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596582020002639170" />

But, look! It is so much more fun to make things for girls than for boys. Girl things are just so cute. And boy things, well, they take forever to think of and they don't always turn out how you want them to. My next couple of posts will be about boy gifts but this one is about a girl gift.

My niece turned 12 this year (in April...I know, I know, I'm a little late). What to make for a beautiful 12 year old girl? How about a super cute make-up bag? All girls love make-up, right? I've had this pattern sitting around for awhile:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 223px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCuWwPss87I/AAAAAAAAASQ/El_TUpTMNjY/s320/simplicity+pattern.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488646326472995762" />

I decided it was time to put it to use! The pattern had 5 different ones to choose from....I chose the small one in the picture in the upper right corner. It seemed to be the perfect size for make-up. The others were a little too large, unless you do your make-up like Tammy Faye then the bigger sizes would be perfect. But my niece does not.

The pattern called for a patchwork of different material for the the middle portion but I wanted it a little more simple. And this is how it turned out:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCvlmboU8GI/AAAAAAAAASg/cU08D4p2ZiY/s320/012.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488733019295772770" />

Hmmm....it's so cute, I might make one for myself! It's even cuter on the inside:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCvl5q_XqhI/AAAAAAAAASo/_Ff8rVYnepI/s320/019.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488733349836466706" />

A little pink surprise! And now for a rear view:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCvmK2a7svI/AAAAAAAAASw/jVnczjuv9dU/s320/018.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488733644962640626" />

And the little tabby-thingie:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCvmbcW_A1I/AAAAAAAAAS4/75dL5LqSWsY/s320/020.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488733930024534866" />

This was actually pretty simple to make. The pattern instructions were easy to follow and I completed this in a few hours. That's a record for me! So, poor Adelaide's blog has been neglected. However, I have finished a few gifts - from birthdays to Father's Day - that I'll tell you all about over the next few days.

First up:
Happy Father's Day to the best dad in the whole world! Seriously. Those of you out there who know him can vouch for me when I say, "My dad is wicked awesome!" He's sweet and kind and funny and I am so lucky that I'm his favorite child :) One thing about my dad, though, he's impossible to get a gift for. He has everything he wants and a lot of things he doesn't want. So I had to get a little creative.

He is a HUGE Oregon Ducks fan (I mean HEEE-YOOOOOU-GE). And this is what I came up with:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCq-VjY3eeI/AAAAAAAAARg/WLj4VadWH7I/s320/043.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488408373390440930" />

Yep, that's a U of O tie. So he only wears a tie maybe once a year.....details, details....

For something that would seem to be so easy, it was surprisingly difficult to make. I followed an old pattern that I had bought at Goodwill awhile back (I love me some Goodwill!):

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 230px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCq_oamnpwI/AAAAAAAAARo/HV35-jwPzUk/s320/pattern.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488409796961347330" />

And everything was going smoothly until it came time to create the point in the tie. Damn you, Point In Tie! (Shakes fist in air)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCrAMI5qp0I/AAAAAAAAARw/nExxuI33kdk/s320/041.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488410410684688194" />

I had some issues with the point. Clearly. It's a little wonky. But, then, so is my dad...

I found the U of O fabric of Joann's and added a dark green lining to the inside:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCrCMHYpUpI/AAAAAAAAAR4/s4yxgV9zeFE/s320/046.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488412609301009042" />

You can see I also added a little loopy thing for the inside part of the tie to sit inside. I think that's the technical term, "little loopy thing".

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCrDAEOHnqI/AAAAAAAAASA/D3bbqVCb2K0/s320/045.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488413501804748450" />

Not too bad, I would say. Next time I make one, I'll have to figure out how to get the point, well, more pointy but I like it. And I think my dad liked it too:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TCrDe1Bo3NI/AAAAAAAAASI/K23ULD92dqs/s320/005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488414030301813970" />

I love you, Dad!!

****Note: the above picture was not taken at time of gift giving****Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-22848818192547983692010-05-30T20:25:00.000-07:002010-06-01T08:49:25.756-07:00Summer Backyard Makeover<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TAMsoYm4WVI/AAAAAAAAAOA/tbuOKxdlSIk/s320/155.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477270644124571986" />

I am a little behind on my gift projects and my blog posting. And when I say "a little", I mean, stupidly, embarrassingly behind. These past couple weeks have been crazy hectic and I just haven't been able to get myself organized. I'm getting ready to go back to school in a few weeks, my stepdaughter was visiting from Texas (and Big Daddy and I finally got to meet our little 5 month old grand-daughter!), I've been plugging away on a few projects (posts on these to come soon!), I'm leaving in a couple days for a week-long road trip (woo-hoo!), AND we hosted a BBQ for my in-laws to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversery this weekend. Yeah, I've been a little busy.

In addition to all of this and in preparation for summer and aforementioned BBQ, Big Daddy and I decided we needed a backyard makeover. First, a little history: I hate yard work. I mean, really hate. I would rather have an ugly, weed infested yard that I hate to spend time in than to do yard work. And that has basically been what's been happening for the past several years. In the past, we have rarely used our outdoor space just because it has been so ugly and so much work that I didn't want to bother with it. Because I hate yard work...did I already mention that?

So we decided that this year would be the year to get the backyard in ship shape. I had a lot of grandiose ideas but I wanted to keep the makeover within these parameters:

1. Reuse as much stuff as possible
2. Spend as little money as possible
3. Turn the backyard into someplace that relaxed me rather induced hyperventilating fits.

And that's it. Sounds simple enough, no?

Well, simple, I guess. Time consuming and exhausting, definitely.

First, we hired a landscape company to come and rid the yard of about 5 years of neglect. I wish I would have taken a before picture but I was just so excited that someone else was going to be doing all the crap work, it completely slipped my mind. And then Big Daddy and I went to work with cleaning up everything else. Here's a few before pictures:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TAMxnc4xe2I/AAAAAAAAAOI/pJDETH0V8pQ/s320/053.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477276125651630946" />

This is the deck area immediately outside the dining area. It's a long, narrow deck that leads to the backyard and deck and is really just a weird and unusable space. Here's a view looking towards the back deck:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TAM1ZeesV9I/AAAAAAAAAOQ/_8QFaEkj7iw/s320/034.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477280283607455698" />
Yawn.
Here's some more "Before" pictures of the back deck:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TAM2CUf3TDI/AAAAAAAAAOY/Nx33MQh6Mpk/s320/036.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477280985302649906" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TAM8azF0MUI/AAAAAAAAAOg/3k3PEcfijFI/s320/035.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477288002901520706" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TAPzmTNzHII/AAAAAAAAAOo/rF_DwszbCyM/s320/047.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477489411131382914" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TAP0ONqg8CI/AAAAAAAAAO4/h1J6xmG0G7g/s320/037.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477490096835981346" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TAP0abvwB1I/AAAAAAAAAPA/L1IqlCgXZm0/s320/043.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477490306774468434" />

The gazebo used to have an old non-working hot tub in it. It hadn't worked in a few years and it was too expensive to fix and/or replace. So we just left it there. Until a couple moths ago when we finally had it removed.

And now for the after pictures:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/TAP1ZO5JIKI/AAAAAAAAAPI/Hxqnam2p4xc/s320/104.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477491385655959714" />

Yes, that is a putting green. No, it wasn't my idea. Big Daddy is just beside himself with giddiness over this addition. When we went to Home Depot to get the supplies, the sales guy was high-fiving Big Daddy and telling him how awesome he is for putting a putting green in his yard. I know. The above picture is a close-up of the fabric I used to make a gift for a good friend of mine. She sorta has a thing for firemen. So I when I found the above fabric, I KNEW I had.to.have.it. I wasn't quite sure what I was going to make with it but, come on, check out that 'stache!

But then I found this pattern from Vanilla House Designs for the Friday Night Apron:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 198px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S9-7n5HOvuI/AAAAAAAAANY/OW_xJHImZ80/s320/apronpicture.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467294766671511266" />

Perfect! After much consideration over what type of coordinating fabric to use, this is what I came up:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S9-8Fq-F7HI/AAAAAAAAANg/NGbRtXbSQLQ/s320/005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467295278271163506" />

For the life of me, I could not get a good picture. I keep blaming my poor photography on bad lighting, but I'm thinking it's my camera. Yep, definitely my camera. Not me. So here are a few of the random shots I took. They're not all that great but it will give you an idea of how it turned out.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S9-85yMM4SI/AAAAAAAAANo/yQj5Qcn1MBQ/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467296173562585378" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S9-9UkERfEI/AAAAAAAAANw/DaFkxV9CUHQ/s320/004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467296633627704386" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S9-9itMVX4I/AAAAAAAAAN4/lXxEccNBRMo/s320/002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467296876595601282" />

I think it turned out pretty good and it was a HUGE hit! What's that? None of them? Oh. Anyways, I just finished my nephew's birthday present, who turned 10 on April 8. (Two weeks late isn't that bad, is it?) I haven't given him his gift yet as I have to mail it to him but I thought I would post about it anyways. I don't think it will ruin the surprise for him because I doubt that, as a 10-year-old boy, he is reading any sewing blogs. So, here it is:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S9B18Pf_aGI/AAAAAAAAAM4/JAO14pRnoUk/s320/009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462996025813723234" />

Um, what is it, you ask? It's a Nintendo DS carrier! I found a pattern for it here. I had to make a few adjustments to it to make it look how I wanted it to, but the basic pattern is the same.

I added a strip of black nylon webbing around the center of the carrier and attached velcro to it:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S9B5Q5-Nj-I/AAAAAAAAANA/DSlfG1KGxiw/s320/008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462999679347036130" />

The inside of the carrier has a pocket for the DS, pockets for games, and an elastic strip for the little pen-thingie that comes with it (I can't think of what it's called!).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S9B7JmeoP_I/AAAAAAAAANI/JaEpGPV_UvM/s320/010.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463001752878465010" />

The outside is made from a blue and black striped sweatshirt fabric and the inside is black jersey cotton. Because of the stretchiness of the fabbric, it looks a little wonky and uneven in the picture but, trust me, it's all good. The tutorial was pretty easy to follow. The only part that really had me confused was where I was instructed to fold it in half "hamburger-style". Um, what? Do people fold their hamburgers in half? Other than, though, pretty simple. And, I like how it turned out!Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-78015385059804934362010-04-21T13:52:00.000-07:002010-04-21T18:54:31.855-07:0010 Projects in 10 Days UpdateSo it's been a few days and I thought I'd update you on how my project list is coming.

1. Finish deck chair cushion and pillow - Done! Last summer I bought this old wooden chair at a garage sale for $3:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S89mPYU16MI/AAAAAAAAAMI/e2I4B64QwMc/s320/002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462697287437641922" />

Three dollars, People!!!! I love how it's old and rustic looking. But it was missing something. A few weeks ago I found a cute cushion cover at Goodwill, some scrap fabric at Joann's and, of course, my beloved dingleberries. And now this is sitting outside my front door:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S89mysFj__I/AAAAAAAAAMQ/Z1HOQfjSbPI/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462697894037684210" />

Cute! I tried ironing the cushion cover but ironing is not really my "thing". I'm OK with it being a little wrinkly.

2. Wash windows inside and out - Done! And it was disgusting. Cleaning windows isn't really my "thing" either. I even got out some Q-tips and cleaned out the window tracking. Yeah, I'm hardcore.

3. Bark the flower beds - Half done. Ran out of bark but just got some more yesterday so no more excuses.

4. Clean off potting bench - Nope, haven't even started.

5. Finish Big Daddy’s birthday present - Done! Posted about it the other day.

6. Finish nephew’s birthday present - Done! Will be posting pictures soon!

7. Finish friend’s birthday present - Not yet. That's my plan for today.

8. Sew pocket storage for trailer - Done! A while back Big Daddy and I bought a tent trailer and we love it! However, it needs some handy storage, mainly near the bed so we have easy access to our glasses, headlamps, books and that sort of thing during the night. I thought that I would just sew a couple of pockets to hang from the tent poles that are near our heads when we sleep. And this is what I came up with:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S89o3tcmPqI/AAAAAAAAAMY/sFZVt9iT7FY/s320/013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462700179325337250" />

I was looking for some camping-themed appliques to put on them but couldn't find any so for my pocket I put on a cute little owl:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S89pRdOXWII/AAAAAAAAAMg/pFAjwbgNa0o/s320/014.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462700621647272066" />

I wanted something a little more "manly" for Big Daddy. This was all I could find:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S89plXbcOqI/AAAAAAAAAMo/qQjODCuomAU/s320/016.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462700963688888994" />

Need a closer look? Watch out..you might get judo chopped!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S89p3y1U_uI/AAAAAAAAAMw/lYqGNzBOox4/s320/018.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462701280282869474" />

9. Clean up debris in yard - Nope

10. List stuff on Craigslist - Nope

And quite honestly, these last two probably won't get done before we leave. But I'm OK with that :)Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-67480265612571075382010-04-18T08:59:00.000-07:002010-04-18T09:48:42.806-07:00Happy Birthday, Big Daddy Part TwoBig Daddy is a golf freak. He golfs about twice a week and goes on an annual golf trip with his friends every year. He even has his own golf blog called Breaking 80!....I guess that's a golf reference? Anyhoo, so, of course I wanted to make something golf related for his birthday present.

Several months ago I found this tutorial on sewing a golf towel here. Perfect! The tutorial was super easy to follow and Big Daddy loved this gift! Here's the inside of the towel:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8syWaPn1uI/AAAAAAAAALI/7BqG4yKpmJI/s320/011.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461514333700216546" />

The bottom corner is folded up and then sewn on one side to created a pocket to make it easier to clean golf balls and clubs. Of course, I had to personalize his towel:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8syzeV0TMI/AAAAAAAAALQ/p1k2NJHlmoo/s320/005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461514833016147138" />

And here's an action shot of the towel:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8szE8PxZdI/AAAAAAAAALY/yKWgj8738eI/s320/014.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461515133101630930" />

Excuse the messy garage. I also wanted to make him a matching bag for his golf shoes. I found a tutorial online (I forget where) that I tried out and it just wasn't working. I think it was designed for Women's Size 5 shoes, not freakishly large Big Daddy size 12. When I finished it, I realized that he could maybe fit his hand into the bag but definitely not a shoe, let alone both shoes. So I started all over and made it up as I went along. And this is what I came up with:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8sz6scACYI/AAAAAAAAALg/JAXpDWo_eW4/s320/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461516056570890626" />

I also wanted to line it on the inside with the same towel-type material that I used on the towel. I added a couple of large snaps on top so it would be able to close:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8s3VNW7nXI/AAAAAAAAAMA/t1Ex6PX1pf0/s320/009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461519810619481458" />

After Big Daddy opened it, he asked if I could add some handles to it, to make it easier to carry. Done!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8s0_5JMCUI/AAAAAAAAALw/8jIJv0nAFpk/s320/023.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461517245392619842" />

And another action shot (minus the shoes):

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8s1Ph75lvI/AAAAAAAAAL4/4MFH6v0_d3g/s320/020.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461517514040776434" />

Um, yeah, it kind of looks like a man-purse. I'm sure it will look much more manly once there's golf shoes inside of it. Hopefully.Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-89489304974953221272010-04-17T10:03:00.000-07:002010-04-17T11:38:38.151-07:00Happy Birthday, Big Daddy!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8nt8Rc5JMI/AAAAAAAAALA/h3C7-QS4cMk/s320/004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461157642895959234" />
Today is Big Daddy's birthday. He hates birthdays. Well, mainly just his own birthday. And he hates it when anyone makes a big deal for him. So, out of respect, I won't go on and on about what a wonderful husband he is. I won't talk about how lucky I am that I've spent the last 12 years of my life and have so many more ahead with him. I won't talk about how much he makes me laugh, even when he's not trying (and I mean that in a good way). I won't talk about what an amazing father he is, even when he doesn't think so. I won't talk about how much I appreciate everything he's done for me, from supporting every wild, crazy, and illogical whim I have to taking care of me when I'm sick and whiny (and when I'm not sick but still whiny). I won't talk about how much I love that he is always game for anything, be it tagging along on my many Goodwill trips (and NEVER rushing me!) to dressing up as Elvis to hand out invitations (yes, he's actually done that). Nope, I won't talk about any of that. Out of respect for him, of course.

I love you, Big Daddy. You are my world and I'm a better person because of you. Happy Birthday!

P.S. Pictures of his birthday present coming soon!Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-71588914782481968142010-04-15T18:26:00.000-07:002010-04-15T23:20:05.059-07:0010 Projects in 10 DaysBig Daddy and I will be leaving for a week long getaway in ten days...not that I'm counting the days or anything. And, as always, I have a bazillion things to do before then. I find when I'm completely overloaded, unless I get myself organized, I tend to be overwhelmed and then just procrastinate and not get anything done. So I've decided to give myself a goal of "10 Projects in 10 Days", which I'm going to list here so all of you can hold me accountable :) And even though these chores aren't all sewing or gift projects, this is my blog and I can change the rules whenever I want. So there.

So here it is: 10 Projects in 10 Days:
• Finish deck chair cushion and pillow
• Wash windows inside and out
• Bark the flower beds
• Clean off potting bench
• Finish Big Daddy’s birthday present
• Finish nephew’s birthday present
• Finish friend’s birthday present
• Sew pocket storage for trailer
• Clean up debris in yard
• List stuff on Craigslist

Of course, there's a ton of other things to do but this is a good start. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. And that's mainly because I just finished sewing my Easter gifts for the grandbabies. I found this pattern at Jo-Ann's several months ago:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 223px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cMawRok9I/AAAAAAAAAJY/nlj7Q3Cj6Tg/s320/simplicity+pattern.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460346726985012178" />
It was so cute and looked somewhat simple to make...at least that's what I thought at the time. I mean, it has "Simplicity" right in its name! Come on! (Side note: Jo-Ann's usually has AWESOME deals on patterns at least once a month. This one is regularly priced at $15.95 and it was on sale for 99 cents. I LOVE a good bargain!) Anyways, back to the Easter gifts.....I thought these would be relatively easy to make. Why I thought that, I have no idea. I have since learned that I should perhaps read through the sewing directions before deciding on its difficulty level.

I wanted to make two of them so I had to cut out 100 circles of fabric and 100 circles of batting. And then I had to sew each one until I ended up with a huge pile of fabric discs:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cOTwmZjRI/AAAAAAAAAJg/Tid4eY1rPOc/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460348805836279058" />

And, of course, to make these difficult, there were three different sizes:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cOnZ82_dI/AAAAAAAAAJo/cqgfkhAvM_o/s320/005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460349143353851346" />

Side note: It would have been so much easier if I had one of these:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cPpAiyv9I/AAAAAAAAAJw/tYrAAM4nlzE/s320/fabric+cutter.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460350270405001170" />
GO! Fabric Cutter...only $500...*sigh*.....

Anyways, the construction part of the process wasn't too hard, apart from sewing the head, appliqueing (that is a word...I looked it up) all the facial features, and sewing them to the fabric discs. I mean, other than that, it was a breeze. But, even though it took me foreva, I think it was worth it. I love how they turned out! First the happy little hippo:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cRxUf2UsI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/4zvtCUZI_ig/s320/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460352612223570626" />

He looks so happy!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cSEk2cUCI/AAAAAAAAAKA/hwMtGU36ClQ/s320/007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460352943030816802" />

And a close-up of the discs:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cSXRpvIqI/AAAAAAAAAKI/rcmLVLV1NRY/s320/014.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460353264294765218" />

And a little hippo padunk-a-dunk:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cSq5UOpuI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/fUvFjXX-OTo/s320/009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460353601359488738" />

And then it was onto the monkey:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cTAvF22mI/AAAAAAAAAKY/Ds00a8hcDe8/s320/019.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460353976571976290" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cTdJkJoqI/AAAAAAAAAKg/bAduUe5q0EM/s320/017.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460354464714695330" />

Close-up of the discs:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cTwCOwp5I/AAAAAAAAAKo/EDZ8O_OTbu4/s320/022.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460354789163444114" />

Rear view:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cT_oU2jNI/AAAAAAAAAKw/swt6ldpqFOU/s320/021.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460355057087581394" />

And, look, they're friends!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S8cURIIr5hI/AAAAAAAAAK4/Y_vN0wMmyw4/s320/023.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460355357684262418" />

So, even though it took me about 8 1/2 years to finish these and there may have been some cussing involved, I'm really happy I was able to finish these. I think they're super cute! And, the upside to giving Easter gifts a week and a half late? Easter baskets that are 75% off. And you know how I love a good bargain!Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-38680506655756543482010-04-06T20:37:00.001-07:002010-04-15T06:54:31.291-07:00The Big Reveal: Adelaide's New Room!What a crazy, busy couple of weeks I've had! A few weeks ago I decided to go back to school (starting this summer) and I had so much to do to prepare to just APPLY to the program. Buttload of paperwork? Yup. Financial Aid? Working on it. Placement tests (even though I have my Bachelor's, too much time had lapsed)? OK. Medical Terminolgy class? Er, uh, no. What's that? All the courses all full for spring term? I guess I'll just have to take a challenge test and hope to pass it and waive that requirement. I mean, how hard can it be to teach myself a whole term's worth of information in one week? Turns out, pretty hard. I spent an entire week with my nose inside of a textbook and it paid off....I'll be starting classes in June! So, along with all of that, let's throw in trying to finish the sewing room, trying to eke out (unsuccessfully) a few projects, a sick dog that had to have surgery, a migraine, a few nights of insomnia...well, let's just say I've had my hands full.

But, I was able to put some finishing touches on my/Adelaide's room today and I'm ready to show it off! There's still a few things I need to do but I think it's good enough for now. My main goals in re-doing this room were to make it functional, make it enjoyable to be in there, and to spend as little money as possible. I'm talking like zero, zilch, nada. We did replace the floor with neutral carpeting, bought new paint, new shelving on the walls, and new curtains. We also replaced the old baseboards with brand spanking new ones. And when I say "we", I mean my favorite nephew, Adam (thanks, Adam!)
Everything else in the room I either already had or bought second hand and spiffied it up.

So, let's take a look at few before and afters, shall we?

Before:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wB62IsCMI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/0HTFlqySD4c/s320/017.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457238958942193858" />
This is what it looked like when you walked in: dark, dreary, and just an all around hot mess. This is what it looks like now:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wCUnIjm6I/AAAAAAAAAGY/ZMG9bAB_CS4/s320/038.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457239401591708578" />
Light and bright! I love it! Do you remember this heart attack-inducing disaster?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wC8xW531I/AAAAAAAAAGg/66FOhfgbiWY/s320/018.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457240091531009874" />
Gah. Make it go away. Now it looks like this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wDcgviAJI/AAAAAAAAAGo/sY92LvYejDE/s320/040.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457240636826714258" />
The pictures on the wall are prints from the Robot of the Month Club that Big Daddy gave me a couple years ago for Christmas:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wD1SvyxYI/AAAAAAAAAGw/dHN8cEuSJg4/s320/043.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457241062566446466" />
These are probably one of my favorite gifts I've ever received....every month for a year I received a new print of a robot doing some sort of activity: knitting, getting a physical, making a snowman. They just make me laugh. Although, not sure if I like them on this wall or not. Maybe I need to paint the frames? Oh well, another day.

How about these ugly closet doors?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wEv5daQSI/AAAAAAAAAG4/9Sa6L3CavYI/s320/022.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457242069390737698" />
How about some wicked awesome curtain panels instead?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wFSsXnG5I/AAAAAAAAAHA/LGZeg6KCJJc/s320/047.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457242667172174738" />
Inside the closet before:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wGwasVtCI/AAAAAAAAAHI/l_KlpWm43tE/s320/023.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457244277334979618" />
After:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wHO0yUMGI/AAAAAAAAAHY/QnX5-64bjwM/s320/048.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457244799735443554" />
Because we have no choice but to put the litter box in this room, I moved it into the closet so it's out of sight. I think the cats like the "privacy curtains", too. And those blue bins on the shelves? Upcoming projects I'm working on:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wHwwVGPlI/AAAAAAAAAHg/30cvsN85amI/s320/059.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457245382654705234" />
I plan on spray painting all the bins with chalkboard paint on the front in order to label everything but that's for another day as well.

Lonely armoire before:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wIMbMAA4I/AAAAAAAAAHo/3wjuPvnahDA/s320/020.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457245858015740802" />

Moved to the other side of the room and gussied up:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wIo0mF67I/AAAAAAAAAHw/u3GO36yZG74/s320/058.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457246345872403378" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wJAQwVvAI/AAAAAAAAAH4/ZuAyBjtJY5E/s320/041.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457246748568566786" />
Hahaha! And by help I mean roll around in the fabric, attack any thread or ribbon I'm working with, and just causing general mayhem. Hence the moniker "Alice the Malice". I also found an old doll bed at Goodwill a while back that I turned into a little bed for Alice to hang out on when I'm working away in there:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wNfGMJh_I/AAAAAAAAAIw/6W3xC_htfno/s320/055.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457251676354873330" />
She loves it:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S7wN3y45CvI/AAAAAAAAAI4/mnLAdrilViM/s320/033.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457252100670556914" />
OK, she doesn't look all that enthused here but, trust me, she loves it :)

So that's Adelaide's new room. Can I just say how much I love it? Um, I love it. A lot. Every time I go in there, it just makes me happy. Now, time to start working on some projects. I'm a little behind...I'm still working on Easter presents for the grandbabies (yes, I said Easter), and a nephew's birthday present that needs to be done in one day, a birthday gift for a friend who's birthday was this past weekend, and get started on Big Daddy's birthday present. Yeah, a little behind.....Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-14321918688193371562010-03-23T22:57:00.000-07:002010-04-15T06:55:10.496-07:00Extreme Home Makeover: Adelaide EditionI started working on a few Easter gifts a couple weeks ago and then got very, very sidetracked. The room that I've dedicated to do all my sewing and crafts has also been acting as an office/storage/catch-all room and quite honestly, it just wasn't working. There was soooooo much STUFF in there! I was constantly moving things around, stacking and piling things, and spent so much time just looking for stuff, that it took the joy out of actually doing a project. So I decided to put a hold on some gifts and treat myself.

It was time to clear out all the crap from the sewing room/office and start all over. And it has definitely taken some time. Lots and lots of time. And I am still not done. But I will give you a little sneak peak at what I was dealing with before:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S6mrmELn5wI/AAAAAAAAAFo/P_oTvA2ov8A/s320/017.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5452077494354568962" />

I'm still working out how to take a good picture. But this is how it looked as you walked in the room: messy bookshelves, Montel the Turtle's tank, and a cat box (don't judge!). Blerg.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S6mscg15PLI/AAAAAAAAAFw/Z1wjw-5yP94/s320/019.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5452078429760994482" />

And here is sad, little Adelaide. On a borrowed sewing table. With god-awful booger-green paint on the walls (I happened to think it was quite chic ten years ago when I painted it).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S6ms8ASoLqI/AAAAAAAAAF4/8xntVOnwEbQ/s320/018.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5452078970778955426" />

Oh. My. God. Just looking at this pictures makes me break out in hives. Seriously. Look at all that crap. What was I thinking??? But now all of that is just a memory :) The room is not done yet and I don't think I'll post a reveal just yet...I need to do a few more things to it first. But here's a during picture:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S6mufW5mW1I/AAAAAAAAAGA/CGjTdCKfyew/s320/028.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5452080677655042898" />

Already, it is MILES better!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S6muy6QnwnI/AAAAAAAAAGI/bErM3sl9jpg/s320/032.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5452081013564359282" />

Poor Adelaide....all alone and banished to the hallway.....don't worry, girl, we'll get the band back together soon.....Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-64536432324402793502010-03-06T18:16:00.000-08:002010-03-06T18:19:14.836-08:00Walking With DinosaursOne more nephew has a birthday coming up...this time, it's my great-nephew and he will be all of one year old! I made a rag quilt for his sister (who will be here soon!) and thought I'd make one for him as well. But a little more "boy-ish", of course:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S5MG84hMrjI/AAAAAAAAAFA/SfdOxpdsVek/s320/003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5445704017454607922" />
Aaaaah...it's a friendly dinosaur......And now a close-up on the face:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S5MHYnoIvoI/AAAAAAAAAFI/fFZHvkFw-Vs/s320/004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5445704493956644482" />
Um, can I just say how much I lovelovelove these rag quilts? They're a bit time consuming but sooooo worth it...at least I think so....This one went a bit easier than the last one as I sorta/kinda knew what I was doing. Sorta/kinda. At least I didn't get completely stressed out and have to look up words like "baste" and "chain stitch".

Let's look at some more pictures, shall we? The top half:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S5MJtxGCtRI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/gwmlOFDmbQA/s320/005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5445707056298505490" />
And the booty half:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S5MJ_W-seQI/AAAAAAAAAFY/n9x_fJVF_Kk/s320/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5445707358526011650" />
And this is the back of the quilt:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S5MLRrtYVNI/AAAAAAAAAFg/af0H5nFcx98/s320/007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5445708772839806162" />

My nephew's birthday party is tomorrow and hopefully he'll like it. Well, as much as a one year old can like a blanket. I've got lots of birthdays and gifts to make in April. I've seen these crayon roll projects on several websites and blogs and thought that it would be perfect for a 5 year old.

I used a tutorial I found at www.skiptomylou.org. That particular tutorial was for 16 crayons but I wanted to do a mix of crayons and markers (thanks, Courtney, for the idea!) so I adjusted it to meet my needs. And this is how it turned out:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S4lVgIz4hiI/AAAAAAAAAEg/6acDEYqRtY0/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442975635263227426" />
Honestly, I thought this was going to be a nice, easy project that I could complete in an afternoon. Not so much. Maybe for someone else but not for this girl. It took me several days and I had to start over twice. I just couldn't get it to look how I wanted to look. I'm still not super happy with it (I wish I would have made the ric rac a little more pronounced and the corners are a bit wonky) but overall, I like it. Here's some more pictures:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S4lXSDRCeyI/AAAAAAAAAEo/mEMylWubvcA/s320/002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442977592279989026" />
I do love this fabric though:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S4lYMA3KNXI/AAAAAAAAAEw/CLcr3goV30o/s320/005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442978588066985330" />
Cute, right? I used red corduroy for the pockets and red shoe lace material for the tie:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S4lYif_23II/AAAAAAAAAE4/_aC9dzYbMXI/s320/004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442978974382087298" />

So, that's that...what do you think?Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-80598059009877037052010-02-20T06:25:00.000-08:002010-03-06T18:25:24.636-08:00Cherries and DingleberriesI have been soooooo excited to show you all Keeley's gifts for her first birthday. I loveitloveitloveit! First, I found these cute little chairs at Goodwill for 99 cents a piece! I couldn't pass up a deal like that for such small little chairs:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S36rP5KlO-I/AAAAAAAAACw/4QfqugzfTWM/s320/013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439973689441729506" />
Kind of cute, right? They reminded me of being in a first grade class room. Then I found this cute little table at a different Goodwill for only $9.99:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S36sLQtls6I/AAAAAAAAAC4/bE99MplsoEw/s320/010.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439974709374858146" />
I got it home and it was the perfect size!

So then I went to work with some spray paint (and when I say "I", I mean "Big Daddy"); pulled out the trusty Modge Podge and went to work. And now the table looks like this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S36tLBvugfI/AAAAAAAAADA/bcREkKHWq_M/s320/009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439975804868919794" />
Here's the top:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S36tnDNnMeI/AAAAAAAAADI/1V0QbpcQD4M/s320/008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439976286299042274" />
The alphabet is cut out from some scrapbook paper, glued on with Modge Podge, a couple extra coats of Modge Podge for good measure, and a couple coasts of polyurethane.
And the chairs now look like this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S36vCsxDACI/AAAAAAAAADQ/aVQQrZ7phS4/s320/011.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439977860821614626" />
Wait...something's missing:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S36vhprGUvI/AAAAAAAAADY/RzRHfo_Q2bU/s320/013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439978392567304946" />
There...that's better. Cushions with cute little pink dingleberries (I think they're more commonly known as "pom-poms"):

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3_xbwikDYI/AAAAAAAAADg/I2mESYZN-W0/s320/015.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440332334075481474" />
And how cute is that cherry fabric? Here's one more look at it just because I love it so much:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3_yFWMh2kI/AAAAAAAAADo/nee1LH4qZXM/s320/014.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440333048558246466" />
But wait...there's more! I had started on a quilt for Keeley before she was born but it was just a hot mess. The fabric was all wrong and it kept falling apart so I started all over from scratch and finally finished it:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3_yskv25QI/AAAAAAAAADw/yXT55pC7tTU/s320/018.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440333722479420674" />
I love that cherry fabric! I also added some detailing...some cute ribbon and buttons:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3_zC0QTuqI/AAAAAAAAAD4/GdQNA_ULnpk/s320/004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440334104599181986" />
And one last thing. I decided to try my hand at clothes. I have never, ever even attempted to make a piece of clothing but I think it turned out pretty OK:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3_zm_VMSMI/AAAAAAAAAEA/_SS68NpSsdA/s320/020.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440334726047746242" />
More dingleberries!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3_z5PhGa0I/AAAAAAAAAEI/H3bymI4zk8w/s320/022.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440335039630306114" />
And finally, here's a picture of the whole shebang:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3_0ODqdKRI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/wEg5Prs3QuE/s320/023.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440335397225572626" />
Whew....that was exhausting. It was a lot of work but I love how everything turned out. Now a day's rest before starting on the next project!Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-87269750614469398692010-02-14T21:45:00.000-08:002010-03-06T18:27:31.182-08:00Happy Valentine's Day!A little late...yes, I know. The problem with blogging about the gifts you make is that you can't talk about them on said blog until that gift is given. Oh well.

So the Big Daddy and I usually don't do anything huge for Valentine's Day, usually just a card (I know, we're such romantics). This year, though, I wanted to do something a little special for him and what better way to say "I love you" than with something sweet? Or how about several somethings sweet? And that's why Big Daddy got this:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3jjV7AaaoI/AAAAAAAAACY/wVFOtFaqRu4/s320/008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438346515806055042" />

Ooooh yeah....a whole year of desserts!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3ji8M7LDkI/AAAAAAAAACQ/u3x-N3CkSbU/s320/009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438346073939316290" />

I created 12 coupons for Big Daddy to redeem throughout the year for some of his favorite desserts. The fine print on them reads: "These vouchers entitle the bearer to one dessert of his choice per month. Vouchers must be presented upon redemption and must give at least 24 hours notice for preparation". I had to give myself some leeway, ya know?

Then, I had to make a voucher envelope for the coupons. I found a pattern at www.myrtleandeunice.com that fit the bill perfectly. I bought some kinda/sorta-manly-not-too-feminine fabric. This is the back of the envelope:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3jktfVGknI/AAAAAAAAACg/O6JA-gdsZHw/s320/004.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438348020205130354" />

This is the front of the envelope:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S3jk_NdclKI/AAAAAAAAACo/lEj2arm8Qcc/s320/005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438348324645934242" />

Note the cutesy cupcake appliques that totally negates the attempt at manly fabric. I then added a little ribbon to tie it closed and voila! Dessert of the Month Club with awesome coupon envelope. Plus a gift that will last all year long!

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day!Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-27885611348536601562010-02-06T19:52:00.000-08:002010-03-06T18:28:07.242-08:00Operation Camo Bag: CompletedMonday is my nephew's 13th birthday (Happy Birthday, Dillon!) and I had been racking my brain as to what to make for a 13 year old boy. I mean, really, what do you make???? I searched through websites and magazines for ideas and I came across a pattern for a large laundry bag in the first issue of Sew It All magazine. Now, I seriously doubt he needs to lug laundry around but I thought, "What about paintball gear? Or his ghilley suit that Big Daddy help him make for Halloween? (For those of you who don't know what a ghilley suit is, google it...it's pretty awesome).

And this is what I came up with:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S27tjJNKryI/AAAAAAAAABI/AoHGz_-hknU/s320/001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435542988305116962" />

Maybe it will look better if Big Daddy models it:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S27t_eHmDyI/AAAAAAAAABQ/uH_AVzVpThE/s320/007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435543474955226914" />

I sewed a zipper on the straps so he can carry it as a duffle:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S27uvPSew4I/AAAAAAAAABY/Q-pMujVLNgA/s320/005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435544295608075138" />

Or he can unzip it and carry it as a backpack:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S27wiDwHvvI/AAAAAAAAABw/AMaynBPleRs/s320/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435546268196126450" />

And, is it just me, or does Big Daddy bear a resemblance to the old guy on the cover of the Led Zeppelin IV album:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S27w7t6Yk4I/AAAAAAAAAB4/61KwF9SLL1A/s320/Led_Zeppelin_IV.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435546709010191234" />

No? It is just me? Oh well....

I also addded a name patch that Big Daddy had on one of his old Army uniforms. I mean, we gotta represent, right?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoIXutYN1gs/S27xcqoShUI/AAAAAAAAACA/Z-Vh5SJMhII/s320/009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435547275064673602" />

Now, that this is finished, it's on to the next projects: a Valentine's gift for Big Daddy and gifts for Keeley's first birthday!Adventures With Adelaidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04640125620555116884noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075987970582549964.post-56802359665075192772010-02-01T22:01:00.000-08:002010-02-01T22:04:49.653-08:00Is It February Already?Yeesh, the first day of February and I already feel like I'm behind on my monthly projects!
